Efrain Cubillo, MD
Efrain I. Cubillo, MD, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Fellowship Trained Interventional Pain Specialist and Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine in the greater Tucson community. Dr. Cubillo is currently a managing partner at the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona, conveniently located throughout Tucson, Green Valley, Safford, and Benson, Arizona. He has been practicing for eight years and currently specializes in pain medicine treatments.
A native Arizonian, Dr. Cubillo graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe. After earning his bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Dr. Cubillo enrolled in the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. During his time in medical school, Dr. Cubillo was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society — the highest academic honor in medical school — and was elected by his peers to receive the Gold Humanism Award for humanistic care.
Upon graduation in 2011, Dr. Cubillo completed his anesthesiology residency at the Mayo Clinic, where he earned The Mayo Clinic Spirit Award. Dr. Cubillo has always been passionate about the latest techniques and treatments in pain management. Immediately after finishing his residency, Dr. Cubillo completed an interventional pain management fellowship at the Harvard Medical School Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, to better serve his patients suffering from acute and chronic pain.
Dr. Cubillo, who is fluent in Spanish, is highly trained and skilled in all areas of pain medicine, including physical medicine, neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, sympathetic blockade, spinal injection techniques, spinal cord stimulation/implantation, kyphoplasty, and radiofrequency ablation.
When Dr. Cubillo is not working with patients to provide the best care possible, he loves spending time with his wife, daughters, and their three dogs. They enjoy hiking and traveling together whenever possible.
